[Abstract] This research study investigated the question, |What is the experience of males with eating disorders?| The aim of this study was to explore the essence of the male's experience. In doing so, the Phenomenological Research Model of qualitative research was implemented. Twelve adult males who fit the DSM IV-TR criteria for Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, and Eating Disorder Not Otherwise Specified were interviewed. The data were analyzed using interpretative phenomenological analysis to highlight both the commonality and diversity of the participants' experience. The five major themes that emerged from the data and were discussed in this research include: parental unavailability, distress and dissociation, alienation, distorted body image, and sense of shame. This study explored the textural and structural aspects of this phenomenon, followed by a synthesis of both elements. This research also addressed implications and applications for educators and psychologists, and recommendations for future research.
